STRENGTHS

Intro

The 6'6" Serbian two-guard is a talented scorer with a 6'11" wingspan. He's a difficult shot-maker who can come up clutch in big moments. Bogdan also brings some on-ball playmaking and competes on defense.

Shot-Making Ability

He can be a featured guy within the second unit. Bogdanovic uses his starting-level talent to boost the bench scoring. He can play on or off-ball, with high usage guys or without them, and is just a versatile offensive player.

His comfort level while isolating comes from years of playing big roles overseas. His handle gets him where he needs to go, and that size helps make up for non-elite athleticism. 2021-2022 had him in the 82nd percentile isolating for buckets.

Bogdan expertly manufactures separation to get his jumper off. He will use jabs and fakes while in his triple threat stance. Additionally, he's got some step-backs in his bag for when he attacks off-the-bounce.

He's historically been a relatively accurate midrange shooter; he just doesn't use that area much. The same narrative holds true a bit closer in for floaters and runners.

Every so often though, you will see Bogdan counter deep dropping bigs with a make from here. He's even got some mild post-up ability.

Attacking via Handoffs

A core element of Bogdanovic's offense is coming off dribble handoffs. He has nifty footwork here, coming around tightly so that no gap is left for his defender to squeeze through. Several of his drives are born out of this classic action.

During 2019-2020, he played the DHO two-man game a lot with his big men. From Richaun Holmes to even Harrison Barnes, he remained effective as a scoring/playmaking threat here. Scoring-wise, he finished in the 65th percentile for DHO's on the year.

Finishing At the Iron

Bogdan's not afraid to lay it up with his off-hand on the inside. He's an adept finisher here with that perfect size at the two. While not necessarily an above-the-rim guy (2 dunks in 2019-2020), he finishes strong, nonetheless.

2021-2022 had him clear 60% inside of the charge circle. That was superior to other offensive threats like James Harden, RJ Barrett, and Cade Cunningham. A strong 47.7% was his figure on all other paint shots.

Second-Side Playmaking

Playmaking is another strength of Bogdan's. The 6'6" guard can see over the top, making some nice lobs and cross-court skips thanks to his size. He has meshed nicely with De'Aaron Fox and then Trae Young as someone who can alleviate some playmaking burden.

By the numbers, he generated north of 500 points for teammates in 2019-2020. His total surpassed some lead guards such as Collin Sexton and Patrick Beverley. It also outpaced fellow solid second-side creators around the Association.

By entering the league as a more mature 25-year-old, he wasn't making the passing mistakes youthful players make. Bogdanovic has posted pretty strong AST/TO ratios from day one. The Serbian offers up nice secondary playmaking that parallels a Marcus Smart or Brandon Ingram.

Spot-Up Excellence

Bogdan is the real deal as a spot-up shooter. He's got deep range and a silky-smooth release, with his shooting elbow at an exaggerated tuck-in.

The guard will crisply come off pindowns to get free for a three-ball. He had more 2021-2022 points off screens than many high-end off-ball players. That lot included Khris Middleton, Bradley Beal, and Fred VanVleet.

His size and length allow for a natural high release that flies right over guards' contesting hands. The dip is something he likes to use as he loads up for the triple try. However, he can eliminate the dip when he needs to speed up the release for whatever reason.

Many players, particularly stretch-fours, can work themselves into competent corner shooters. What's rarer to find is a player to provide both high-volume and relative efficiency on the farther-out above-the-break three. Bogdan brings that consistently and was one of the better shooters from here in 2020-2021 (40.6%).

He was in the 88th percentile for spot-up scoring in 2021-2022. During that year, the Serbian shooter shot 38.2% on a high volume of catch-and-shoot three-point jumpers.

Pushing the ball up with pace or otherwise racing over to his spot behind the arc is something he'll do in transition as well. 2019-2020 had him at 150 fast break points. His sharpshooting carried his effective field goal percentage up to 64% in these scenarios.

Defensive Energy

If nothing else, Bogdan gives you size, length, and effort on the defensive side. He can defend a couple of positions adequately. The guard lands somewhere between a guy who'd get hidden on a shooter and a guy who you'd put on the number one option.

The hard-playing Bogdanovic does fight over top screens commendably. In 2019-2020 he was in the 92nd percentile checking pick-and-roll initiators. His 6'11" wingspan helps out on some difference-making side and rear-view contests.

He squeezes a last bit of value as a defender by virtue of serviceable steals and rebounding rates. Bogdan also contributed with 126 deflections across 2019-2020. That was more than 3-and-D stud Royce O'Neale.

WEAKNESSES

Too Many Jumpers

The perimeter-oriented Bogdan prefers to collect his points on jump shots. Consequently, he doesn't get to the rim enough. His shot chart is skewed towards the outside, and he would benefit from some more evenly spread distribution.

Failing to apply relentless pressure on the rim has multiple negative effects. For one, his free-throw rate is low which is unfortunate given that he's a great shooter there. Furthermore, his overall field goal percentage suffers from this jumper-heavy shot diet.

In 2018-2019 he took 649 jump shots against just 194 layups. An even vaster discrepancy could be found his following season. Bogdan's a skilled shooter, but he's also a fine finisher inside and should look to mix in more paint touches.

He can score out of the screen-and-roll, but just hasn't yet developed into a deadly one-dribble pull-up shooter. This dampens his scoring threat here. To help contextualize this weak point, he shot 40.7% on zero-dribble threes versus 28.3% on one-dribble threes (2019-2020).

Minimal Defensive Impact

Bogdan is fine as a perimeter defender, just nothing special. What hasn't helped his cause is the fact that he's been on some particularly poor defensive teams. His lateral quicks, recovery rate, closing speed, and mental processing on defense are all non-elite attributes.

He provides little-to-no value on the backline of a defense. At the bottom of a zone, or just when he happens to be the low man in general, he doesn't use his size to make an impact. His block rate is skeletal, and he rarely steps in to take a charge.

Though drafted by the Suns in 2014, Bogdanovic ultimately suited up for his first NBA game in 2017 with Sacramento at age 25
